History
Red Wolf Ranch's conception was no coincidence.
My name is Blayne Chenoweth and my best friend Elfta and I both share a love and passion for horses and endurance riding. We have been great friends and partners ever since I moved to California. We have the same dreams and aspirations of taking care and providing a loving home for abused and neglected horses and dogs. Currently we have 11 rescued horses that live here with our working horses. 8 of the 11 dogs that live here are also rescued animals.
About 10 years ago we found an incredible 10 acres overlooking the Cleveland National Forest in Northern Ramona and since then have turned it into a horse ranch and training facility. The name of the ranch came easily. RED - being the color of energy and WOLF - because of their spirit. In Native American medicine, the Wolf represents the teacher/pathfinder and shares an enormous sense of family, as well as a strong individualistic urge. These qualities are very much like the human race.
Right after we named our ranch, we were heading to Northern California, to compete in the 100 mile Tevis Cup and we found (or he found us) our mascot, HARLEY T. MERLOT (the T. stands for Tevis ).

We found this scared little abandoned puppy. He looked like a little red wolf with a curly tail, even though he is a golden retriever/chow mix. His sweet nature, gentle disposition and constantly wagging tail made us certain that he deserved to be the symbol/mascot of Red Wolf Ranch.
Through our years of working together, Elfta and I have tested hundreds of products and are proud to offer some of our best finds to help you keep your own horses healthy, safe and happy.

Animal Rescue & Horse Rehabilitation
I started rescuing dogs when I was ten and continued while living in Philly. I worked with the Northern Breed Rescue Group, training dogs to be house pets and helping to find adoptive homes.
Since then my "rescuing genes" have been in full swing. Many great dogs have come to live out their lives with me. Currently, between Elfta and myself we have 8 rescued dogs in our 11 dog "pack". Dakota, with her wolf-eyes, was considered untrainable and was headed to the pound. She has been my constant companion, even on long trail rides. Living at the Ranch is Buddy, a sweet beautiful blue heeler, was found starving and wandering in the mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Harley who was found abandoned at the Madera Fairgrounds. Nellie, who came to us, is a neurotic border collie who was locked up all day alone in a condo in the city. She now has settled in as a working dog helping to "herd" whatever needs herding, whether it be cats or horses. Willow is a Poodle/Bishon mix that was found running down the middle of a busy road, skinny with a matted coat and now is by Elfta's side 24/7, traveling everywhere with her, even if it's flying around the country on a plane with her.
Ty, a Pomeranian mix was rescued from the Jackson Hole Shelter, and sweet Maggie, a gorgeous pit bull/lab mix who joined the pack last year. Her hind leg had been shattered and needed amputation. Today, she is healthy, happy and adorable. No one even notices she's 3 legged, she gets around so well.

Our latest rescue came home from Utah last year when we were returning from an endurance ride. His name is Kodiak and he is a 10 year old Alaskan Malamute who was locked up for most his life in a 4' by 6' kennel. Being imprisoned most of his life, joining the "pack" was a challenge to him and us both, but with patience, love and calm- assertive handling, Kodiak is now a balanced member of our "pack". We are so proud of how he has let go of his past and moved forward to learn to be a "real" dog.

Rescued and Retired Horses
Here at Red Wolf Ranch, we have a wonderful herd of retired and rescued horses. Many are well in their late 20's - early 30's. Each enjoy pasture turnout with their particular "herd buddies". For instance, Mr. H, a retired sulky racer and great lesson horse is pasture companion to sweet Gingee who is being boarded here while pregnant. They adore each other and are the perfect couple. Teach, a retired race horse has two girlfriends, Desiree Santana and Melody, two older arabian mares, to keep him company.

Cairo, Blayne's first Arabian is retired from endurance and lives with Paltrok, a 30+ arabian stallion. Paltrok was in such poor condition, he barely survived the the trip here but has rallied over the years and continues to surprise us with his youthful exuberance and zest for life. Sampson, the little brown pony was abused and hated people when he arrived years ago. Now, he is calm and happy and always running up to us for his treats and scratches. All of our retired and rescued horses are so special and bring us such joy.
We also have pasture space available for anyone who wants to board their retired riding and show horses.
