Here at RED WOLF RANCH in Ramona, California, we raise and ride endurance and trail horses. We also have a few retired horses, rehab and rescue horses and Sampson, the pony. We feed 12-14 horses daily. We have three different types of hay that we feed. Timothy, Bermuda and alfalfa and each horse has it’s own individual feeding program.

We conceived of a hay carrier that could be laid out flat on the floor and would hold securely each horse’s hay rations. Since we feed a combination of different hay, it became much easier to keep each horses specific hay portions organized. We added double-ended snaps to secure the handles together. This allowed the hay to be neatly stacked in the wheelbarrow. We found we could fit a lot more hay securely in the wheelbarrow without it falling over the edges. This made it possible to park the wheelbarrow in the barn aisle or by the pasture gate and carry enough hay for 4 horses over to the feeders in one quick trip. Feeding now takes half the time and there is virtually no wasted hay. Any loose hay is simply forked onto a laid out hay tote. Our hay barn floors and aisles are clean. No more mess.
